Pastor Maurice Greaves
Pastor Maurice S. Greaves grew up in the Mattapan section of Boston. He is the only son of Jim and Beryl Greaves and is the brother of Renee, Nicole and Danielle. He is married to Karen Greaves and the father of two wonderful daughters, Angelica and Gabriella.
As an infant he was dedicated at Twelfth Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Michael E. Haynes. He was very active in church youth activities such as the Boy Scouts, the Children’s Choir under Mrs. Clara Jenkins, tutoring, TBC Gents Basketball Team, coached by Deacon Ronald Whitehead. He practiced the art of Okinawan Gojuryu Karate taught by Sensei Richard Scott. Other ministries he either lead or was involved in include Christian Education. He was very involved in the Jr. and Senior High Fellowships under Rev. Bruce Wall.
Maurice accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of thirteen it was at this time when his faith was challenged and cultivated.
Academically, Maurice is a graduate of Salem State College where he obtained a BS in Degree in Criminal Justice. He obtained a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and he is currently completing his Doctor of Ministry thesis project: “How Expository Preaching Addresses The Negative Effects Of Rap Music On The Morals Of Teenagers.”
On September 14, 2003 Maurice was licensed to preach at Twelfth Baptist Church and in July 2010 he was ordained at the Massachusetts Avenue Baptist Church through the American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts. He also served at MABC as its pastor for a brief period.
Vocationally, Maurice was certified as a licensed social worker (LSW) for the Department of Children and Families from 2000 – 2015. During his employment at DCF he served as an investigator, assessment worker and in the Short Term Stabilization Unit. He was extremely involved in the Nurturing Fathers and Families Groups. He was a crisis intervention worker and trained for the (PAYA) Preparing Adolescents for Young Adulthood. He was a mentor for numerous new male social workers. Pastor Greaves is presently a probation officer for the Massachusetts Trial Court.
